No end to Royal Knitting it seems: the shawl the former Kate Middleton, now Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge (or something the like) wore to go grocery shopping in her local waitrose - link here - caused quite a stir. Journalists called the item anything from shrug to poncho to cardigan, only the word shawl was never mentioned. Little do they now, those non-knitting people. On Ravelry there are several threads and even an entire group dedicated to it and there are already a few copycat patterns going round.

Elsewhere, the lovely ladies at Prick Your Finger had an artist in residence who produced a podcast about knitting sounds and sounds we hear while knitting. There even is a top 20 hit-parade of knitting sounds. The 30 min podcast by Felicity Ford of www.knitsonik.com can be found here

Auf Deutsch lass ich die britischen Geschichten mal weg. Aber auch hierzulande gibt´s einen Podcast zum Thema Stricken, genauer: subversives Stricken, und zwar das Leporello auf Ö1, genau hier.

Es gibt schon Pläne für die Sitztaschen für den Weltöffentlichstricktag, oder wie der world wide knit in public day auch immer auf deutsch heißt. Der auch der Internationale Graffittistricktag ist, wo wir wieder bei subversiv wären. Und wir trauen uns mal in die Gefilde des Hafens um ein neues Lokal zu testen.

Of course we all saw at least a bit of the real thing, but the animated knitted Royal Wedding is actually a lot cooler, wouldn´t you think?

Just to keep in mind: June 11th is world wide knit in public day and we will shamelessly steal the idea of the knit-crawl (you know - like pub crawl only with knitting) from Stitch London, formerly Stitch and Bitch London. And while we´re at it and because we think it´s a really good idea we´re going to steal the sit-upon as well. It is a carry-along project bag cum cushion with waterproof fabric on one, and your own knitted design on the other side. The pattern by Steph Fairless is more of a how-to and can be found here. Isenfriesen´s sit-upon has served her well for picnics and knit-crawls over the years so we thought why don´t you make one too and we do a little competition on the day of the knit-crawl.

It is actually International yarnbombing day too. Ideas, anyone?

Gestrickte Königliche Hochzeit, animiert! - unbedingt anschauen.

Für das Strick-Picknick / die Stricktour am World Wide Knit In Public Day am 11. Juni bitte den Nachmittag freihalten! Und ganz praktisch ist dafür so eine Sitztasche (oder die), die man ganz einfach mit eier gestrickten Vorderseite und einer Wachstuch-Unterseite herstellen kann. Polster rein, da gehen auch noch angefangene Socken dazu. Tasche mit der schmutzabweisenden Seite nach unten hinlegen, Strickzeug vorher rausnehmen, draufsetzen und losstricken. Nachher einfach aufstehen, kurz abwischen und auf zum nächsten Plätzchen. Und damit´s ein bisschen spannender wird: wie wär´s mit einem Designwettbewerb: die schönste Sitztasche gewinnt!

Wir gehen davon aus, erwarten, hoffen, dass es jetzt endich wärmer wird und deshalb gibts bei unseren Treffpunkten jetzt meistens einen Gastgarten, in dem wir sitzen und uns je nach Wetter eine Decke oder einen Bikini stricken können. Hey, der Frühling nähert sich mit Riesenschritten und wir freuen uns auf neue Projekte mit neuen Materialien - und natürlich auch schon auf´s Stricken im Gastgarten. Bei KnitHerStory in Wien hat es glücklicherweise nicht geregnet, aber richtig kalt war´s. Dafür hatten es die Laternen und Bäume schön warm mit all den tollen Projekten. Leider gabs danach dann Trubel, das Gute dabei: Ana´s Projekt ist zum Leitbild aufgestiegen Und falls du es noch nicht kennst (gibt´s das?) meld dich an auf ravelry.com und präsentier deine Projekte, schau was die anderen machen, schmöker in tausenden Gratisanleitungen und tauch dich in den Foren aus.

The past meetings saw some unusual goings on. Reports from a brief London encounter, that included a Stitch London meeting, yarny goodies for the ones who stayed at home and platform 9 3/4. The next week was somewhat diminished due to ilness, but we were recognized by passers by. For now: Some are already preparing for KnitHerStory but maybe nothing as complex as this, this, this, this or that. Others, or maybe no others, tick one shawl after the other off their list of 11 shawls in 2011. And now and then sombody asks "can you teach me to knit?" - Yes, we can! and we will, too. For free, of course.

Our little day-trip to Claudia´s new yarn store in Steyr - Claudia´s Wollzimmer - was very pleasant and alltogether sucessfull. Lots of yummy yarn, cake and knitting done, new yarn and project ideas as well as fitting advice. We wish her all the best for her new shop and hope there will be many more visits there.

Unser Ausflug in Claudia´s Wollzimmer in Steyr war genau was er sein sollte: Ein bisschen stricken im Zug (Der Schaffner war etwas verwirrt, eine strickende Frau wär noch gegangen, aber vier auf einem Haufen war dann doch etwas viel. Vielleicht sind ihm am Vormittag auch schon drei begegnet.) Im Wollzimmer angekommen und mit der Autofraktion vereinigt haben wir alles genauestens inspiziert, die Einrichtung und das Sortiment bewundert, die Baumwoll-Kaschmir Mischung von Louisa Harding gestreichelt, an dem schönen großen Tisch noch ein wenig mehr getrickt und jede Menge gute Tips und auch den einen oder anderen Knäuel / Strang mit nach Hause genommen, wieder stricken im Zug und guter Dinge in Linz in die Straßenbahn.. Nur Fotos machen haben leider wir vergessen .
